Accessibility that makes your site

An inaccessible website excludes users and creates legal risk. Good accessibility improves usability for everyone, helps with SEO and demonstrates that your business takes inclusion seriously.

WCAG 2.1 AA Keyboard Navigation Screen Reader 100% Australian

One in five Australians has a disability. Your site should work for them.

Web accessibility means building sites that work for people with visual, auditory, cognitive and motor disabilities. In Australia, the Disability Discrimination Act creates legal obligations , and good accessibility practice benefits everyone.

THE OBLIGATION

Accessibility is a legal requirement, not a nicety.

The Australian Human Rights Commission has confirmed that websites must comply with the Disability Discrimination Act. WCAG 2.1 AA is the recognised standard. An inaccessible site creates real legal risk and excludes a significant portion of your potential customers.

THE BENEFIT

Accessible sites are better sites.

The techniques that make sites accessible , clear focus states, logical heading structure, sufficient colour contrast, keyboard operability , make sites better for everyone. Accessibility improvements consistently improve SEO, usability and conversion alongside compliance.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Web Accessibility FAQs.

What is web accessibility?

Web accessibility means designing and building websites that can be used by people with disabilities , including visual, auditory, cognitive and motor impairments. It involves standards like WCAG 2.1 and practical techniques like keyboard navigation support, screen reader compatibility and sufficient colour contrast.

What is WCAG?

WCAG (Web Content Accessibility Guidelines) is the international standard for web accessibility, published by the W3C. Version 2.1 at Level AA is the most widely referenced standard and the one recognised under Australian disability law. It covers four principles: content must be perceivable, operable, understandable and robust.

Is web accessibility a legal requirement in Australia?

Yes. The Australian Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and associated Commission guidance confirm that websites must be accessible. While the Act doesn't specify a technical standard, WCAG 2.1 AA is the standard that regulators, courts and the Human Rights Commission reference.

Does accessibility affect SEO?

Yes, directly. Clean semantic HTML, proper heading structure, descriptive alt text and meaningful link labels are accessibility fundamentals that also send clear signals to search engines. Accessible sites often rank better because they're built on the same structural principles that help Google understand content.

What is a WCAG audit?

A WCAG audit is a systematic review of your website against each WCAG 2.1 AA success criterion. We test using automated tools and manual inspection (including keyboard and screen reader testing), produce a prioritised findings report and recommend fixes.

Can you fix accessibility issues on an existing site?

Yes. We audit your current site, identify failures and prioritise fixes by severity and legal risk. For most sites the highest-impact changes , focus states, colour contrast, missing alt text, form labels , can be addressed relatively quickly.
