Image optimisation that

Images are the single biggest cause of slow websites. The right format, the right compression, the right delivery , done properly, image optimisation is one of the fastest performance wins available.

Why images are the first thing to fix.

On most websites, images account for the majority of page weight. A single unoptimised hero image can add several seconds to your LCP score and cost you both rankings and sales.

THE WEIGHT

Images cause most slow pages.

Unoptimised images are the leading cause of poor Largest Contentful Paint scores , the metric Google measures most closely for loading performance. Oversized files, wrong formats and missing dimensions all contribute. Fixing images is almost always the highest-return performance task on any site.

THE IMPACT

Faster images mean more sales.

Google's research consistently shows that every second of load time reduces conversions. Images that load quickly don't just improve rankings , they reduce bounce rates and increase the chance a visitor stays long enough to become a customer.

Audit My Images

What image optimisation covers.

The core disciplines that make image optimisation work , each one contributing to better performance, rankings or conversions.

01
Format Conversion

Serving WebP or AVIF instead of JPEG and PNG typically cuts file sizes by 30–80% with no visible quality loss.

02
Compression

Lossless and lossy compression tuned per image type, removing unnecessary data without degrading appearance.

03
Responsive Images

Serving appropriately sized images per device using srcset and sizes , no 2000px images on a 375px phone.

04
Lazy Loading

Loading below-fold images only when they're about to enter the viewport, reducing initial page weight.

05
Dimension Attributes

Setting explicit width and height on every image to prevent layout shifts (CLS) while loading.

06
CDN & Caching

Delivering images from a CDN close to the user and caching aggressively to reduce repeat load times.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Image Optimisation FAQs.

What is the best image format for websites?

WebP is the current best all-round format , it's supported by all modern browsers and typically 30–50% smaller than JPEG at equivalent quality. AVIF is even more efficient but slightly less widely supported. We assess browser support and serve the right format per device where needed.

Does image optimisation affect quality?

Done properly, no. Lossless compression removes metadata and redundant data without touching pixels. Even lossy compression at appropriate settings is visually indistinguishable from the original while dramatically reducing file size.

What is lazy loading?

Lazy loading delays loading images that are below the visible screen area until the user scrolls toward them. This reduces the initial page weight, improving load time and LCP without affecting anything the visitor can immediately see.

How does image size affect Core Web Vitals?

LCP , Largest Contentful Paint , is most commonly the hero image or a large above-fold graphic. If that image is large and unoptimised, it becomes the single biggest thing slowing your LCP score. Optimising it is usually the highest-impact single change you can make.

Can you optimise images on Shopify or WordPress?

Yes. Both platforms have options for format conversion and compression, and we implement proper responsive image handling, lazy loading and CDN delivery on each. The approach varies by platform but the outcomes are the same.

How do I know if images are hurting my performance?

Google Search Console's Core Web Vitals report will flag LCP issues. PageSpeed Insights identifies specific images causing problems. We run a full audit as part of our technical SEO and performance work and show you exactly which images are costing you speed.
