Edge caching that

Every request that reaches your origin server costs time. Edge caching stores a copy of your content in locations close to your visitors, so pages load fast no matter where in the world someone opens your site.

Distance is still the biggest delay on the web.

A server response has to travel the physical distance between your host and your visitor. Edge caching removes that distance for repeat requests by keeping content ready at locations near the people asking for it.

THE DISTANCE PROBLEM

Every extra kilometre adds latency.

A visitor requesting a page from the other side of the country is already slower than one nearby, and a visitor overseas is slower still. Caching a copy of your content at a location near them removes most of that travel time before a single pixel renders.

THE SERVER LOAD PROBLEM

Fewer origin requests means a steadier site.

Every request that hits your origin server is one more request your hosting has to process. Caching common content at the edge reduces that load, keeping your site steady during busy periods rather than slowing down exactly when it matters most.

Review My Caching Setup

What edge caching covers.

The core disciplines that make edge caching work, each one contributing to a faster, steadier site.

01
Cache Rules

Deciding what gets cached, for how long, and when it needs to be cleared so visitors never see stale content.

02
Static Asset Caching

Serving CSS, JavaScript, fonts and images from edge locations so repeat visits load almost instantly.

03
Cache Invalidation

Clearing cached content automatically when a page updates, so changes go live without waiting on old cache to expire.

04
Geographic Distribution

Positioning cached content across multiple regions so each visitor is served from the location nearest to them.

05
Origin Shielding

Protecting your origin server from traffic spikes by absorbing repeat requests at the edge instead of passing every one through.

06
Cache Hit Monitoring

Tracking how much traffic is actually being served from cache, so rules can be tuned and the hit rate improved over time.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Edge Caching FAQs.

What is edge caching?

Edge caching stores a copy of your website's content at servers positioned around the world, close to where your visitors are. Instead of every request travelling back to your original server, most requests are served from a nearby cached copy, which is faster and lighter on your infrastructure.

Is edge caching the same as a CDN?

They work together but aren't identical. A CDN is the network of servers your content is distributed across. Edge caching is the practice of storing and serving content from those servers rather than the origin. Most CDN setups rely heavily on edge caching to do their job.

Will visitors ever see outdated content?

Not if cache rules are configured correctly. We set cache duration and invalidation rules based on how often each type of content changes, so pages update promptly while still benefiting from caching.

Does edge caching help with traffic spikes?

Yes. Because cached content is served without hitting your origin server, a sudden increase in visitors is absorbed at the edge rather than overwhelming your hosting. This is one of the more overlooked benefits of a well-configured setup.

Does edge caching affect Core Web Vitals?

Yes, mainly Time to First Byte and Largest Contentful Paint. Serving content from a location near the visitor removes a meaningful chunk of network delay before the page can even begin rendering.

Can edge caching be set up on Shopify or WordPress?

Yes. Both platforms support edge caching through their hosting infrastructure or a connected CDN, and we configure the cache rules and invalidation logic to suit how each site's content actually changes.
